Museums Re-Visited Germany

TFCC is working with the British Council Germany to explore the development needs and aspirations of museums across the country. This includes survey analysis of over 70 museums to assess how they are changing their strategic approach as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many museums have accelerated their approach to digital and devised fresh ways to engage audiences. They are fast-evolving as hybrid platforms for culture and knowledge. Many are also becoming more activist - critically engaging with the world and working to set agendas rather than simply reflect on them.

Museums Revisited is an intensive museum development programme led by the British Council. Our reports on museum development needs and opportunities across Europe can be accessed here:

Cultural City Profiles Launched: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam & China

Over the last year, TFCC has led a major research programme for the British Council. This has focused on establishing detailed 'cultural city profiles' for cities in 4 Asian countries. Working with a network of local experts, we have developed city profiles for over 40 cities, most of which are second or third tier cities which are less well known internationally.

The reports aim to provide information and an overview of the cities' distinctive cultural profiles. The reports provide introductory information on the cities’ history, demographics and unique cultural practices, including the nature and scale of cultural, creative and digital activities.

Each city profile provides:

- Local governments' cultural policies, strategies and priorities
- International networks and recognition
- Cultural and digital infrastructure
- Main arts and cultural events and festivals
- Arts and cultural education provision
- Arts and cultural investment
- Creative industries data and intelligence
- Cultural and creative hubs and networks
- Influential and emerging arts and cultural stakeholders.

The reports provide a vital resource for city-makers as they seek to understand the distinctive assets of the city and shape policy and investment in an evidence-based way. The reports are also insightful for cities and cultural organisations seeking collaboration opportunities or just interested in best practice examples and cultural and policy trends from cities across Asia.

Over 2022, we aim to extend the range of cities and develop cultural profiles across Asia and in other regions.

Reports can be reached via the British Council websites for each country.

Re-imagining The Halls, Norwich, UK

The Halls, a Grade I listed Scheduled Monument, dates back to the 14th century. Owned and managed by Norwich City Council, The Halls have been used regularly for civic occasions since 1544, when the first Mayoral feast was held for the inauguration of Henry Fuller. The Norwich Triennial Festival, the third oldest in the country, began at The Halls in 1824.

Apart from their heritage and architectural qualities, The Halls provide a unique setting for conferences, weddings, concerts and meetings. TFCC has been tasked with developing priorities for the refurbishment of The Halls toward a sustainable and dynamic future. This involves engaging users, strategic partners and potential audiences to scope options. This is supported by The Towns Fund of the UK Government.
