EU4CULTURE - Promoting Culture & Creativity as an Engine for Economic Growth and Social Development in Eastern Area Partnership Countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan

TFCC has been commissioned by EU4CULTURE as lead expert to a new programme of cultural city strategies across the 6 Eastern Area Partnership Countries. This will involve collaboration with Goethe Institute, Danish Cultural Institute and Czech Cultural Centres.

TFCC will provide overall guidance on the methodology for cultural mapping and cultural strategy, support the cities in designing and delivering their cultural strategies, and offer guidance on best practice models.

Within the EU4Culture project a maximum of five non-capital cities or towns from each of the participating EaP countries will be selected Out of the five selected per country under this call, three from each participating EaP country will receive further receive grants to design a Cultural Development Strategy. Then, one non-capital city or town in each participating EaP country will be selected to receive investment to implement the Cultural Development Strategy.

Keynote address at International Conference Creativity Structures, Covilha, Portugal.

Tom will provide a keynote which calls for a fresh value proposition for culture that puts people, place and environment to the fore. This is a major conference for culture in Europe, organised by the Department of Culture for the Central Region of Portugal. It presents an opportunity to reflect on what we have learnt and set out some shared goals for culture in recovery and beyond. Tom will point to how the cultural sector will need to radically change and how cultural policy must facilitate this change - toward a more inclusive, equitable and environmentally responsible future.

The Festivals and Events Sector - What Next? Leopolis Jazz Festival, Lviv, Ukraine

Tom Fleming is set to provide a keynote to the Leopolis Jazz Festival, the largest event of its kind in Ukraine. Tom will follow an introduction by the Ukrainian Minister of Culture, Oleksandr Tkachenko. He will set out some of the structural challenges facing the live festivals and events sector in a pandemic age, and point to innovation and opportunity as we emerge from the health crisis. This includes a more hybrid reality with digital and physical programming converging, new business models, and fresh approaches to audience engagement.

This event follows our recent work advising the Government of Ukraine on its new Cultural Industries Strategy.

Museums Revisited: Challenges and Opportunities for Italian Museums, Keynote Address, ArtLab Italia 21

Museums Revisited is an upcoming programme of the British Council which aims to build capacity and connectivity across a network of museums in the UK and EU countries. The Programme is informed by a TFCC research project which explores the current development needs and aspirations of museums in this Covid-19 crisis. With the support of DG Musei, ICOM Italia and AMACI, our final report sets out a summary of the needs and aspirations of 53 Italian museums. It is part of a Europe-wide Museums Revisited research project which will be launched on June 24th.

ArtLab: Territories, Culture, Innovation, is an independent Italian platform dedicated to innovation in cultural policies, programmes and practices.

Promoted in 2006 by the Fitzcarraldo Foundation, it is based on a network of over 40 partners including European networks, cultural agencies and institutes from different countries, public administrations, territorial agencies, foundations, companies, institutions, universities, and professional organisations.

Arts for Social Inclusion - Keynote Address, Tallinn, Estonia

Tom Fleming will provide a keynote address on how the arts and wider cultural sector deliver social impact, with a focus on social inclusion. With Covid-19 brutally exposing inequality and tearing through Europe's social fabric, this symposium provides a moment to reflect on the role of the arts and cultural sector in delivering positive social outcomes.

Tom will talk of the vital role for the arts in post-Covid healing and recovery. He will highlight the need for a more activist role for the arts - not just reflecting on society but actively trying to change it. And he will call for much more co-creation and collaboration which puts people of all backgrounds to the heart of the process of arts and cultural production.

The symposium brings together arts and cultural organisations from across the Baltic region. It is organised by Creative Estonia, The British Council and Cultural Policy Designers Network.
